Veterinarian
Animal Clinic Inc. is eager to add another veterinarian to our team! We are a 3 DVM, small animal practice that has over 57 years of combined experience. We serve Iowa City and the surrounding communities and pride ourselves on being thoughtful, high touch, educating, and family-oriented practitioners. Aside from industry-leading wellness care, we have experienced all types of conditions and treatments throughout our many years. Additional equipment/services we regularly utilize are full in-house laboratory, ultrasound, digital radiology, surgical laser, therapy laser, acupuncture, and more.

Our DVMs are supported by a wonderful support staff consisting of 2 RVTs and multiple assistants! They play a vital role in our practice and are always there to assist our doctors and keep their schedules on track. Our team is supportive, collaborative, and welcoming to all new team members.

We encourage veterinarians of all experience to apply! We offer individualized mentorship for newly graduated DVMs and would serve as a great opportunity to develop any desired skills. Both Full and Part-time positions are available.

Veterinary Technician

Our practice is excited to add another Veterinary Technician to our team! We are looking for an individual who is good at communicating, organization, and multi-tasking, and who is ready to work in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate would have at least 1-2 years’ previous experience in veterinary medicine.

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 7:30 am-5:30 pm; Saturday 8:00 am-12:00 pm We are proud to offer our teammates comprehensive benefits:

Essential Functions:

  • Able to perform basic animal handling and restraint
  • Be able to accurately position for radiographs
  • Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery
  • Perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare specimens for outside labs
  • Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights as well as providing client education
  • Collect and prepare diagnostic samples
  • Anesthesia monitoring
  • Assist in maintaining practice equipment
  • Assist veterinarian performing surgery
  • Assist veterinarians in any other assigned tasks
  • Maintain cleanliness of surgery suite, treatment area, and exams rooms for all surfaces
  • Support DEA compliance as it relates to the role
  • Any other duties as assigned

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Previous veterinary experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
  • Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
  • Computer skills, MS office applications, etc.

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week

Veterinary Assistant

Our practice is excited to add another Veterinary Assistant to our team! We are looking for an individual who is good at communicating, organization, and multi-tasking, and who is ready to work in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate would have previous experience in veterinary medicine but we are happy to train someone who will be a great addition to the practice!

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in the practice of veterinary medicine and other tasks as needed.
  • Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, as well as providing client education.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs of the patient during surgery.
  • Collect and prepare samples; obtain blood, stool, and other samples.
  • Perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
  • Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
  • Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
  • Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments at the discretion of the Doctor.
  • Accurate charting at the discretion of the Doctor.
  • Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with clients; exercise compassion and care in all interactions with patients.
  • Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies. Assist other team members to keep the public areas of the practice clean; clean and maintain all medical equipment.
  • Communicate with Doctors and practice team members including client discussions, patient plans, client concerns, etc.
  • Follow DEA and OSHA guidelines; document controlled drug logs anytime a controlled drug is used; follow appropriate safety and handling of hazardous materials; follow established hospital safety guidelines regarding radiographs, controlled drugs, animal handling, etc.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Ability to work on weekends
  • Previous veterinary experience preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
  • Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
  • Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages
  • Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS office applications, etc.
  • Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety
